Let’s take the derivative of the function at x = 2.
So right now, we are just looking for the rate of change at the point where x = 2, which can be measured as the slope of the blue line, which is tangent to the graph at x = 2. (In this context, tangent means the line touches the curve at only one place, without intersecting. It does not mean opposite/adjacent like it did in the Trigonometry chapter. Yes, the word “tangent” means two different things, like a parent saying to their kid, “You’re brave to wear that.”
